Cops in Paraguay discover 20k worth of high purity cocaine bound for Ireland inside chess set… – The Irish Sun

THIS is the moment cops in Paraguay discovered over 20,000 worth of high purity cocaine bound for Ireland inside a chess set.

Police recorded themselves cutting open the game at the South American countrys main airport after a sniffer dog indicated drugs may be inside.

The large board itself was empty, but two boxes containing the playing pieces both had slabs of coke glued inside.

Separately, Spanish cops arrested an Irishman after they broke up a smuggling ring sending weed to Germany in furniture shipments and seized over 2m worth of the drug earlier this week.

The man, whose age was not given by authorities, was detained along with two German nationals when police raided a growhouse and other properties in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol.

They had been monitoring the gang after receiving a tip-off that they were cultivating marijuana locally and sending it to German cities to be sold on the streets.

One shipment of 15kg (worth around 200,000) had already been found in heat-sealed bags hidden inside four wardrobes being transported to Germany.

Detectives learned that another load was about to be sent and moved in as two of the gang were driving away from a warehouse.

Inside were three large weed plantations equipped with top-of-the-range hydroponic equipment which had been illegally hooked up to the national grid.

The Irishman and the two Germans were brought before an investigating judge, where they were placed under official investigation for drug trafficking, criminal association and electricity theft.

All three were remanded in custody pending the outcome of investigations.

However, cops said the mastermind of the operation, a Bulgarian man, was not at the scene and is being hunted by authorities.

In a statement, they said: National Police agents have dismantled a crime organisation involved in the international trafficking of marijuana.

Three people, two Germans and an Irishman, were arrested for their alleged involvement in criminal association, drug trafficking and electricity fraud.

"Three searches were carried out of properties around Fuengirola, which were illegally hooked up to the electricity grid and used for the growing and preparation of shipments to Germany.

Part of the drugs seized were hidden in wooden structures which had been hollowed out. A total of 159kg of marijuana buds were impounded, along with a top of the range vehicle, a van and 600 in cash.
