Representatives of the live music industry made their case for the necessity of the Save Our Stages Act Tuesday at a Senate hearing that was convened by Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kansas, chairman of the Subcommittee on Manufacturing, Trade, and Consumer Protection.

During the hearing, according to a piece published by Variety, Klobuchar referred to National Independent Venue Association founder Dayna Frank, who runs Minneapolis legendary First Avenue club where portions of Princes Purple Rain were filmed. A mural of the late virtuoso and superstar now adorns a wall outside the venue.

He (Prince) and so many others across the country could not get his start without venues, Klobuchar said. So many of these venues are the heart of their community we do not want to be the Congress that lets the music die.

Fans gathered in the days immediately preceding the pandemic to catch the Get Up Kids performing at the Rec Room, one of 20 WNY members of the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA).

NIVA has some 20 local member businesses, among them Artpark, Babeville, the Borderland Music & Arts Festival, Buffalo Iron Works, Helium Comedy Club, Mohawk Place, Pausa Art House, the Rapids Theatre, the Rec Room, Revolution Gallery, Sheas Performing Arts Center, Sportsmens Tavern, the Cave, the Riviera Theatre, the Town Ballroom and the Tralf Music Hall.
