26-year-old Indian no. 3 Vidit Gujrathi is the 10th player to be confirmed for the SkillingOpen, the 16-player opening event of the $1.5 million Champions Chess Tour that starts onNovember 22nd. Vidit won the Under 14 World Championship and has made slow but steady progress ever since, becoming a grandmaster at 18 and crossing the 2700 barrier at 22. In 2020 he captained India to gold medals at the Online Chess Olympiad. Now's your chance to take on Vidit as he plays chess24Premium members in a Banter Blitz session starting on Sunday November 15th at 16:00 CET.

Following in the footsteps of 15th World Chess Champion Vishy Anand, Vidit was the 4th Indian player ever to cross the 2700 rating mark when he did so in 2017 (after Anand, Sasikiran and Harikrishna). He's never dropped back since, and has continued to post impressive results.

In January 2018 hewon the Challengerssection of the Tata Steel Chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee, qualifying to play in theMasters supertournamentin 2019, where he finished a creditable 6th out of 14 players.Later in 2019 Vidit,won the traditional grandmaster tournament in Biel, ahead of Sam Shanklandand Peter Leko.

The Indian star looked certain to add another major tournament victory in thePrague Mastersin February 2020, but ended up losing the final four games, two of them in a playoff to Alireza Firouzja.

When the world went into lockdown later in 2020, Vidit took full advantage of the Indian chess boom with a popularYouTube channel. His most memorable moment was leading India to joint gold medals with Russia in the FIDE Online Chess Olympiad, for which the team was congratulated by the Indian Prime Minister.
