All sporting activities in the country except contact sports are expected to resume immediately after Sports Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohammed unveiled the protocols to the resumption of sports and recreational activities in the country.

Sporting activities in the country were suspended since March following the outbreak of corona virus.

Sportsmen and women who have been missing in action for almost five months now have something to smile after the government announced the first phase of resumption of sporting activities.

The CS announced that non contact sporting activities will resume but contact sports including judo, karate, boxing, chess and swimming will remain suspended.

all non contact sports will reopen in a phased manner,all water sports and contact sports will remain supended until further notice, testing will not be mandatory but where required the cost shall be met by federations,sports organisations,event organisers or partcipants as applicable ,national teams partcipating in water sports internationally or contact sports categories shall be required to seek special exemption from the government , Ambaasador Amina stated.

Non contact sports set to roar back to action include Archery,athletics,Goal Ball,Ice Stock and Horse racing among others.

All sporting activities for sportsmen and women under the age of 18 will also remain suspended..

The CS further stressed on the need for sports academies and training camps to ensure compliance of all set directives in the fight against covid-19.

the management of all sports federations,management of of all other sports institution should ensure guidance so as to protect the athletes ,Amina said.

Dr. Francis Kuria, the Head of Public Health in the Ministry of health said that technical staff in benches around stadiums will be required to be on face masks all the time.

Sports federations will also have to submit their their revised calendars to the ministry of sports for planning.
